Before you do anything else

California's Elder Abuse and Dependent Adult Civil Protection Act covers physical abuse, neglect, financial abuse, abandonment and isolation of people 65 or older, and of dependent adults ages 18 to 64 (Welfare and Institutions Code 15600 and following).

If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. Suspected abuse at home can be reported to Los Angeles County Adult Protective Services; abuse in a nursing home or residential care facility can be reported to the Long-Term Care Ombudsman and the facility's licensing agency.
